Empowering vibrant, grace-filled living for more than 120 years …

In 1892, Pastor August Reinke gave an inspired message about the growing needs of aging friends and family. Moved to help, a generous donor made a gift of 26 cents and Lutheran Home was born. With a strong sense of ministry and dedication to continuous innovation, the community soon became recognized as one of America’s finest senior living communities.

More than a century later, in the year 2000, Lutheran Home’s reputation for exceptional care and sound management gave rise to Lutheran Life Communities. That year, leaders from what would become Wittenberg Village in Crown Point, Indiana, approached Lutheran Home’s management team about sharing their vision of faithful service and innovation in Northwest Indiana. With prayerful consideration, the board of directors from Lutheran Home & Services voted to acquire Wittenberg Village and a system—Lutheran Life Communities—was created.

Today, the ministry of Lutheran Life Communities has expanded to four additional communities, for a total of six in Illinois, Indiana and Florida.
