Welcome to Lutheran Home

Lutheran Home extends worship opportunities for persons who are deaf

September 4th, 2011

Karen Hale leads ASL interpretation at Sunday's worship serviceIn a step to realize a long-held goal of ministry and care for persons who are Deaf, the Chapel of St. John the Beloved at the Lutheran Home recently added an American Sign Language (ASL) interpreter to worship services. As of Sunday, September 4, every scheduled worship service will include an ASL interpreter.

Sunday services in the Chapel of St. John begin at 10 a.m. An interpreter will also be present for all other special services throughout the year (i.e. Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve/Day, etc.).

As you may know, the Chapel of St. John the Beloved also utilizes a state-of-the-art digital hearing assist system for those who are hard of hearing. Planned for the near future will be the training of select staff at the Lutheran Home to enable them to communicate in ASL with the Deaf so that needed services through Lutheran Life Communities can be provided them.

This endeavor is the result of a ministry partnership between Lutheran Life Communities and Mill Neck Ministries-Lutheran Friends of the Deaf.
