Fourth graders get to know Lutheran Home and Cherish Place
April 10th, 2012
Fourth grade students from Indian Grove School in Mount Prospect visited residents from the Lutheran Home, and club members from Cherished Place for a community service project.
Forty-four students spent half their day in Cherished Place and the other half at the Lutheran Home. During their time, the children played “Get to Know Your Resident” by asking various questions to each senior.
“The children were very respectful and open to learning,” said Sandra Mavros, Lifestyle Coordinator at the Lutheran Home. “After they learned about the residents and club members, they also learned how to properly transport individuals in wheelchairs, and how to walk slowly with others.”
Everyone played ball and sang songs together before the day was over. “There were smiles on everyone’s faces – it was a wonderful experience for each person involved,” said Sandy.
We look forward to the new group of students scheduled to complete their community service project at the Lutheran Home on April 18th.
