Americana Arts Series final performance for this season
April 6th, 2012
Please join us for the final performance in this season’s Americana Art Series as we celebrate our great American heritage of music
and the arts –
Roy Vombrack Orchestra
Sunday, April 29, 2012 at 3:00 p.m.
That sound! The irresistible sound of soaring trumpets, robust trombones, wailing saxophones and swinging rhythm section…the sound of the Roy Vombrack Orchestra, a swinging, rocking, roaring 17-piece Chicago big band that celebrates the best Swing and Jazz-Rock big band music from every era.
Also performing as the Jazz Consortium Big Band and led by saxophonist Roy Vombrack, the band features well-known music from such iconic big bands as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, plus contemporary big bands and original arrangements and compositions by band members.
The group was formed in 1975 by area university musicians who loved Big Band music, and went on to perform at jazz clubs, nightspots, and concerts throughout Chicagoland, including an appearance at the Chicago Jazz Festival. The band disbanded in the early 1980’s, with most of the members going on to full-time music careers. But following a successful reunion concert two years ago, it once again performs at many venues and events throughout the area.
Joining the band are two professional ballroom dance couples from the Ballroom City Dance Studio in Villa Park, who will delight us with everything from elegant waltzes to lively foxtrots and two-steps!
