Sometimes it’s nice to be able to touch someone, to hold a person’s hand, or  give a hug, but that isn’t always possible.  Sometimes we have to take that old telephone slogan and “reach out and touch someone” a little differently.  Such is the case for Wittenberg Village resident Edith Vankley.

Edith is nearly 5,000 away from her daughter, Ruth Osewaarde, who lives in Russia, but with the advent of what is known as the It’s Never2Late (IN2L) program and Skype, those miles dissipate quickly. Edith and her daughter are able to talk with one another as if they were in the same room and separated by mere inches instead of miles. To be able to share in a person’s day or to reminisce brings a smile to Edith’s face.  The joy she has been able to experience with the IN2L cannot be replicated in any other way, unless Ruth were right there.  Russia may be a long way away, but for these loved ones, it’s just a few presses of the keyboard.

Now the two ladies Skype weekly and enjoy singing their favorite hymns together.
