Journey to Adventure: resident cruise activies across Lutheran Life Communities

July 29th, 2009

Residents across Lutheran Life Communities have been enjoying the latest entertainment series “Journey to Adventure: A Lutheran Life Cruise.” These Journey to Adventure Cruises bring the fun, vacation feel of a cruise right into the residents’ home with dinner, entertainment, relaxing cruise activities, and decorations all centered on a theme destination.

Residents at Pleasant View, A Lutheran Life Community in Ottawa, Illinois took their first cruise to Alaska this July. They thought they needed a break from all that hot July weather! The Dining Hall was transformed into an icy paradise with fake mountains, sea shells and goldfish in bowls on each table, and a slide show projecting scenic pictures from an employee’s recent visit to Alaska.

The evening’s menu included an array of seafood delights: shrimp cocktail, crab cakes, salmon filets, grilled scallops, and a roast beef carving station. Dessert was a real treat, as cruise goers enjoyed a flaming cherries jubilee parade and cake decorated with skiing polar bears and penguins.

People listened piano bar music and their favorite oldies as performed by Fran the Piano man (all the way from Milwaukee, Wisconsin!) while they dined. There was also a caricature artist on hand, drawing silly pictures and putting smiles on a lot of faces.

The next Pleasant View cruise is to Mexico, and residents can hardly wait. Wittenberg Village residents recently went to Hawaii, and folks at the Lutheran Home just cruised down the Mississippi River. Each Lutheran Life Community will be setting sail at least once more this year. Who knows what exciting and exotic destinations residents will visit next!
