Excellence in the eye of THE STORM
February 4th, 2011
Each of the five Lutheran Life Communities in the Midwest faced their biggest snow in decades. With thoughtful planning and tireless dedication to each other, success was assured in true Lutheran Life Community spirit.
Days in advance of the February 1st-2nd dumping of 20-plus inches of snow across the central states, as the meteorologists were warning to expect the worst, Lutheran Life Communities were preparing. Phone conferences brought colleagues of shared disciplines together to assure the best laid plans were consistently shared and deployed. Food orders were increased and deliveries were rescheduled to beat the storm. Back-up generators were topped off with fuel. Snow removal priorities were put into place. Colleagues with 4×4 vehicles were identified to assist with transportation needs. Preparations were abundant.
Tuesday, February 1st, professionals throughout all departments showed up ready to meet whatever need might arise, and offered abundant assistance outside of their day-to-day roles. Many packed a change of clothes, anticipating the need to spend the night. System-wide, colleagues worked throughout the night. Pavement was cleared. Entrances and exits remained accessible. Resident safety was assured. Dining services proceeded without a hitch.
The sun came out the afternoon of February 2nd. With it, the beauty of healthy, loving communities – Lutheran Life Communities – shown clearly. Faithfulness, most certainly, equals excellence and continues to be celebrated each and every day at Lutheran Life Communities – even snowy ones!
