Memory Loss varies significantly from person to person with the spectrum ranging from self-reliance to total care. Wittenberg Village takes special care to create an appropriate and safe environment for all its memory loss residents in varying stages of care. A separate care unit accommodates residents with private space to personalize their living area with familiar pictures, furniture or objects of interest or comfort.
Our team of trained professionals in Alzheimer’s Disease and related forms of dementia develop a custom care plan unique to the needs of the individual. In addition to any medical needs, care plans incorporate personal histories prior to dementia, including skills, occupations, interests, hobbies, cultural and spiritual history, and daily routine.
Wittenberg Village promotes each person’s abilities through activity-based programming in a protected environment. Therapeutic methodologies involving art, recreation, music, reminiscence, and pet therapy also are part of the memory loss program. Activity staff, dedicated exclusively to help improve quality of life, encourages resident involvement in various events and exercise programs. Under staff supervision residents are further engaged in familiar activities such as cooking, cleaning and gardening.
A specially created Memory Lane Garden features a variety of plants and shrubbery, as well as pathways, a soothing waterfall and serene, oak-planked gazebo furnished with chairs, benches and picnic tables. Both supervised and unsupervised access is available to residents, weather permitting.
Residents also can interact with nature indoors, thanks to a mobile aquarium and an aviary that bring joy through cognitive stimulation.
A short-term Respite Program is available to provide care for a dependent loved one during emergencies, vacations or other situations that may arise.
