Annual Giving

Results of Last Appeal
The Annual Fund encourages regular giving for the ongoing needs of Lutheran Home & Services through several general appeals each year. Our year-end Thanksgiving/Christmas appeal was mailed to 8,800 constituents in November 2006 and to date has generated $99,000.00.

Current Appeal
In March, the Lent/Easter Appeal was sent to Lutheran Home & Service’s family, friends and various congregations to encourage support of the diversified programs and services offered to residents of the Lutheran Home and seniors who are served through our community outreach programs.

Good Samaritan Fund - Providing Benevolent Care
In spite of careful planning increasing numbers of older adults are outliving their financial resources. At the same time, government is providing less money for human services. Over 30 percent of the Lutheran Home & Services 480 residents are in financial need.

Support for the Good Samaritan Fund, established in 2000 with an initial gift from Hearthstone resident Ella Pelz, helps to maintain the Lutheran Home’s tradition of benevolence in which no resident has had to leave because of depleted funds. The cost to provide benevolent care in recent years has been $6-8 million.

Employee Professional Development Endowment
What do residents and their families point to as the most significant qualitative difference between the Lutheran Home and other organizations? Without a doubt it is the well-trained, caring staff that serves residents day in and day out, around the clock with a faith driven spirit of compassion.

Why do people choose to work at the Lutheran Home? For most work is much more that a paycheck. It is an opportunity to express personal values, answer a calling to serve; it is work that contributes directly to the well being of another.

This endowment meets two needs:
  • The need for capable, mission driven employees to carry on the Lutheran Home legacy of caring; and
  • The need of employees to strengthen their skills, growing in both accomplishment and satisfaction in their work.
Earnings from this endowment will provide funds focusing in several areas such as:
Development of training curriculums that focus on employee development;
programs that integrate the mission of the Lutheran Home with employee learning; and
tools to attract and retain quality employees in a highly competitive environment.
