Frequently Asked Questions

1. Is Adult Day Services right for my loved one?

Consider adult day services when one or more conditions are present:

  • The caregiver works outside the home or needs a regular break.
  • The person needs memory support or seems unable to provide structure for their daily activities
  • If your loved one is isolated from others for more than an hour or two each day and misses companionship.
  • If your loved one cannot be safely left alone at home
2. My Mother needs memory support, how do I approach the subject of adult day services with her.

  • Exploratory visits are welcomed by adult day services staff. When discussing this option with the person, it is best to use a positive, calm and reassuring manner. Simple and brief explanations are most effective such as, "It’s a place where you can meet some friendly people," or "The doctor wants you to try this out, I think it's worth considering." Most people will follow the lead of their caregivers if the right tone is set.

We moved to Arlington Heights in January 2005. Our son, who has a disability that involved a loss of short term memory, needs constant care.

We felt that everything was becoming a real disaster because of the move. Then we found out about the Lutheran Home. What a wonderful find that was.

Our son, Tom, attends Cherished Place at the Lutheran Home from 9 AM to 5 PM, 5 days a week, Mon thru Friday. The care is absolutely fantastic. The Administration, Caretakers and all involved are the most professional and caring people you can imagine.

The Lutheran Home has been a blessing for our family, and we would recommend them to anybody who is in need of their type of service.

Very Gratefully,

Thomas M. Sheridan
